How to Celebrate Earth Day 2020 Online

April 22 is the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, the annual celebration of the environmental movement–and ironically, this year’s event is taking place during a deadly pandemic that is keeping people quarantined indoors. But as The Verge reports, “That doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate the occasion while sheltering in place.” Here are six ways you can celebrate Earth Day 2020 online:
- Earth Day Live 2020: This 24-hour event will feature discussions, teach-ins, performances and suggestions for action on the official website for the Earth Day movement. Participants include Pope Francis, Steve Ballmer, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, and Dave Matthews. (https://www.earthday.org/earth-day-live/)
- Animation & Poetry for our 50th Earth Day. This program of 10 short animated films from the Pacific Northwest is curated by artist and animator Marilyn Zornado. The films can be seen at the zornadodesign.com website, beginning at 8 a.m. ET on April 22, through Sunday April 26.
- Earth Day Art Model 2020. This “international telematic festival” featuring live performances by a variety of multimedia artists will start at 8 p.m. ET on Tuesday, April 21, and continue through Wednesday, April 22nd, at 8 p.m. ET. (https://www.earthdayartmodel.org/)
- Jupiter Artland in Minecraft. This virtual World Earth Day Sculpture Challenge in the game Minecraft, is inviting young people to explore sculptures by professional artists and build their own sculptures.
